theBOGOF, Being Only Great Of Finesse: “FROM THE ART”

Dear FAM,

This post has been written from behind that rock over there. I feel like a neglectful parent who leaves their child wandering around the neighborhood until after 9pm and realizing, OH SHIE…where’s that little nutter, It’s dinner time.
Here’s the dinner then.

I have probably met a number of you and told you about the rush in creating the theme for our next BOGOF, FROM THE ART.

There was deliberation (fruits of a democratic environment) before this was agreed upon, I will have you know. Something about where this particular line of thought is heading seems off,oh, there’s a junction. LEFT TURN.

FROM THE ART is a theme that has a strong sense of abstractness in art and the thought in itself. The theme recognizes where from theBOGOF has come from as an event and also the space created by the themes given for rtistes to express themselves, audience to participate and the movement to grow..OK, I think we need a change of direction.

ooh ooh ROUND-A-BOUT

The theme recognizes that ART is an individual conviction by all who wield the talent’s power. In that sense it is expressed in a custom-made manner and everybody puts their heart into it. That tends to show the sincerity that art has when expressed by different individuals. At the very same time, it is abstract because of the fact that it is expressed by different individuals. Quite like having many differently-colored paint balls being thrown around in an enclosed space.(that’s what just popped into my head at that moment). That is how FROM THE ART came along. I can see the lights, we’re here.

THE DESTINATION:

The event will be held at the HILTON NAIROBI on the 29th October 2011 from 3pm to 7pm. In store for you is the most phenomenal assortment of artistes that we have had yet. You would have to come to find that out now won’t you.

But really, the lights are so pretty. The people who will grace the stage will be nothing short of GREAT OF FINESSE. And you will be part of it by just parting with under USD 2.00, KES 200.00, considering the hard times.

the BOGOF, Being Only Great Of Finesse: WHERE TRUTH LIES

Dear FAM,

I  have something in common with our new CJ; the beleaguered Mh. Mutunga @wmutunga (He crossed that line when that certain committee chose him as best contender for the CJ post, then the prezzie, then that House of Goons). Toast to the gentleman.

Apart from being “beleaguered”, I am the best candidate for MOB JUSTICE. I know, I know. The posts have been condensed and are coming in drops, far in between, from each other. And so, here’s the next drop….drip drip *get your cup*

The theme of the next BOGOF is WHERE TRUTH LIES. Let’s feel and think around this theme; as performers, audience, bloggers, tweeps – young people.

Share your views about the themed concept: WHERE TRUTH LIES.

The event is scheduled for the 30th July 2011.

HERE’S THE POSTER. DO SPREAD THE WORD TO YOU AND YOURS

Have a good one good folk. (see what I just did)

PIECE OF PEACE: STEREO-TYPES

Dear Fam,

I would like to apologize, foremost, for the leeward side of my posts. It has been raining on that other end. That statement was not meant to make any sense. I would like to re-affirm my commitment to bring you weekly updates(at least) of the BOGOF theme, PIECE OF PEACE, or at least something that relates to it, somewhat.

I would like to state, here, that Stereotypes are excuses people give for not understanding other people as the individuals that they are. I will repeat that, people use stereotyping to judge others at face value and refuse to look at the person within.

Last weekend I thought of this. Really thought of this. I realized that people relate to you just because of what society depicts “people-like-you” should be. Let me explain: I was dressed in a ‘kanzu’ last week Saturday. I did not put as much thought into it before. So, I left the house and as I was walking to the bus stop, I meet a gentleman draped in one as well, “Salaam Aleikum”, he said. I replied in the same breath. “Aleikum Salaam”. Then, at that point my mind went on a roll. If I were dressed “ordinarily”, would such a greeting even apply? If I’m in a kanzu, is it definite that I’m Muslim? If I’m Muslim, do I conform to the ‘jihadist’ theory? If I’m Luo, does it mean I should seem to be well-moneyed? If that is the case, shouldn’t a Kikuyu, then be a thief? All USIU chicks are sluts? Daystar chicks are drunks? In all the scenarios presented above, shouldn’t we all be living in ‘Year One’ where we have our little cocoons that we wrap ourselves in and the ‘others’ always seem  like the enemy. Shouldn’t we always be at war, as the stereotypes define who ALL of us are? REALLY? See where I’m going with this?

Then,I think that, as individuals, even though I/you/he/she associate with certain groups/institutions should we not understand that whom we are in order to be at peace with it? Shouldn’t we, then, be at peace with the next person by looking at them as individuals and NOT representatives of a certain group.

Further to that, shouldn’t we discover this for ourselves, rather than let the stereotypes that continue to be propagated determine that for us.

I hope that we get to discover this PIECE OF PEACE for ourselves as we head towards the BOGOF, Being Only Great Of Finesse: PIECE OF PEACE on the 30th April 2011 at the Hilton Nairobi from 3pm. There will be a blend of Music, Poetry and Visual Artistes who will give you their take. For only 200 bob. Get your ticket now.
